La Perla Negra Beach Resort
Looking to get away from the crowd? Then you should stay at the La Perla Negra Beach Resort just outside of Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. The La Perla Negra Beach Resort is located about 2 kilometers from Puerto Viejo, a small and lively town on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Location
The fact that La Perla Negra Beach Resort is remotely located is a plus for some people and a minus for others. The Resort’s location is definitely something to be aware of before you book your trip. If you walk to town, it takes about a half an hour, although it is only a short bike ride to Puerto Viejo. The best way to get in and out of town is to take a taxi cab. There are always a lot of taxis around town, and it costs less than five dollars one way to get from Puerto Viejo to La Perla Negra Beach Resort.
Accommodations and Amenities
It is very inexpensive to stay at La Perla Negra Beach Resort, averaging around $73 dollars a night, but do not expect a four star resort. Accommodations are simple and clean, and by far the best part of the Resort is that there are always so few people, leaving you alone to fully enjoy the unspoiled beauty of Perla Negra. There are several types of accommodations available at La Perla Negra Beach Resort. There are 24 hotel rooms, each with a private patio or balcony facing either the jungle or the ocean. There are also upscale rooms with two beds, accommodating up to four people.
There are also six townhouses available that have room for up to six people. Finally, they also have an entire villa that you can rent. Perfect for a family with children, the two-bedroom villa has a wraparound deck with a wonderful view of Perla Negra beach. There are two large bedrooms, one that overlooks the ocean and the other that overlooks the Resort’s swimming pool. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, a really nice living room, and two and a half baths.
The resort itself has a large swimming pool facing the ocean and is on beachfront property. It is literally just a minute walk from your room to the beach, and you can see the beach from many places in the resort. The beach is gorgeous, and incredibly quiet, and the waves are perfect for body surfing. The Resort also has a tennis court, basketball court, pool table, and an outside patio bar. Breakfast in the morning is free and wireless internet is also free.

In Puerto Viejo, there are ton of activities available. Visit the Bri Bri Indian reservation and take a tour of the virgin jungle the Bri Bri’s live in. At the end of the jungle hike, you get visit a stunning waterfall and go swimming. In Puerto Viejo, you can also rent a kayak, go snorkeling, or, if you are coming in May, see sea turtles laying their eggs in the sand. Finally, you can also go on a canal tour of Tortuguero National Park. Tortuguero is one of the most biologically diverse wildlife areas of Costa Rica, thanks to the unique canals and lagoon system within the park. You will see a wide variety of animals who make Tortuguero their home, including sloths, tapirs, howler monkeys, giant anteaters and caimans.
